Another one bites the dust

ABC announced yesterday that it has shelved their new show The Nine and will air the remaining episodes later in the season.

WHAT?!? I am really pissed off because I got hooked on this show. Not only was it a good show (I mean, Scott Wolf and Tim Daly on the same show, come on!) but it's a show that reveals a little info each week. So if it gets canceled, the viewers will never know the full story. Think of it as Lost getting canceled after the first season and you not finding out why those people ended up on that island. No explanation - just pulled off the air. I don't get it.

I think it was the timeslot - Wednesdays at 10pm is not a good place to be. The Nine needs an 8pm slot either on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm sure that new gameshow Show Me The Money can survive in the 10pm timeslot on Wednesday. They freaking gave that gameshow the 8pm timeslot! Get it together, ABC! It's not like the show is crappy...the Nine got great reviews in various magazines and was billed as one of the top 10 best new shows this season in Entertainment Weekly. So give it a chance....I'm pleading with you. Yes, I know you thought that Lost would be a great lead-in but still...10pm is a late hour for some people and after watching Lost, I don't think many people have the heart to watch another similar show right after. Too much thinking at a late hour can cause migranes. LOL!

Ok, I am rambling...this is the second show I have lost this season. I need some coffee and some chocolate. TTFN~

Dare I say it?

This Fall season has thrown me for a loop! Non-reality TV is actually better than reality TV. There...I said it. Now I await the reality TV show gods' angry wrath. :)

Survivor and Amazing Race this season have been okay so far. Survivor has gotten better as of last week with the green bottle twist, where the losing tribe had to read the note in the bottle at Tribal Council, which told them they had to vote a second person out. That was followed with this week's merge. But I am still not at that level of excitement that I usually am where I yell at the contestants on the TV and throw shoes. Oh well, it can't always be great.

Amazing Race is "blech" this season. The winners are predictable and vomit-worthy...I'm sorry but the Blondes make me want to throw up. Nothing personal, girls - this is just TV and you both ain't interesting or watch-worthy.

However, the networks are bursting with great shows this season, new and returning. There's so many shows that I can't keep up. You have Ugly Betty, The Nine, Day Break, Grey's Anatomy, and Six Degrees on ABC. NBC has Heroes, which is hands down, one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life. Fox has Prison Break and of course, my fave show 24, which returns in January. One of my girlfriends swears by Jericho, a new CBS show airing on Wednesday nights. She and her boyfriend tune in religiously every week. My other girlfriend in Toronto loves "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS. It's insane - have we finally gotten to a point on TV where reality TV is going away?

I don't know if I am ready to live without Survivor, Project Runway, Top Chef or Amazing Race but maybe I need to start preparing myself. *sigh*

Anyway, if you haven't checked out any of the shows above, it's not too late. Most networks offer past episodes for download (for FREE). Abc.com offers the last 4 episodes aired and instead of downloading, you can watch the episode of your choice within an internal player on their site. So get to watching, people! :)

Big Brother All-Stars: Vote for Monica!

Big Brother is back and we get treated to an All-Star edition this summer. Twenty contestants from the past 6 seasons have been brought back, from which 12 will actually get to go in the BB house. We, the viewers, get to vote in 6 and the producers of the show will pick the other 6. As you can see from the title of this post, all of my votes are going to Monica, who is my absolute favorite BB player ever.

Monica was from Season 2 (the season where Evil Dr. Will won). She made it as far as the final 3 but got evicted when Nicole won the final HOH and chose to take Will over Monica to the final 2. Monica was this sassy black chick who is from Brooklyn and I swear, watching her made me see how I would be if I were on BB. *laugh*

She made the phrase "It's ON!" famous and she kept it real. She made the show interesting and you actually found yourself rooting for her because she wasn't all about backstabbing and lying. She didn't fly under the radar, either. She was just Monica...she told you how she felt and she didn't mince words. In the other words, Homegirl was on fire and I loved it!

I actually had the pleasure of meeting Monica once, about 5 months after Season 2 ended. I saw her at the Alicia Keys concert at Radio City Music Hall. She actually took the time to talk to me for a bit and I have to say, this woman is fabulous.

So please, I plead with you, fellow readers, if you can, swing some votes Monica's way. If she makes it into the house, you will not be disappointed.

Also, there are others out there who are on the Monica bandwagon with me and have written articles about voting for her. Over at Reality News Online, Phil Kural writes that Monica is his favorite BB contestant ever. Here's a link to his article:

Big Brother: All-Stars – Phil’s Plea for Monica

Over at The Trades, Paul Phillips praises Monica as well, in his assessment on who he'd like to see back in the BB house:

Big Brother All-Stars - Episode 01: It's awwwn!

So vote for Monica! Here's the link to vote on the CBS site - just scroll to the bottom (Monica's pic is in the last row) and click on the "Vote for Me" link under her pic:

Big Brother 7 @ CBS.com

Tune in on July 6 to see who gets in the BB house. Big Brother will air at 8pmEST/7C on CBS.

National Treasurers, Hell's Kitchen and more...the summer TV season has begun, Folks!

NBC premiered their version of Amazing Race last Sunday night, called National Treasurers. When I saw the commercial billing it as a cross between Amazing Race and Da Vinci Code, I knew I had to tune in and check it out. *laugh*

So I watched the 2-hour premiere and I'm iffy about it. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't great, either. Here's the premise in a nutshell: 10 teams of 3, all addressed with nicknames they chose for themselves, which is not a good idea. They ended up with names like "The Southie Boys" and "The Geniuses". It's more fun when the viewers issue their own nicknames, in my opinion. Each team is given a cell phone, a laptop on which they can access the internet, and a Visa card (I'm guessing to buy plane tickets with). The product placement here is heavy with Visa, Ask.com, and Motorola constantly being mentioned. I now have this urge to use Ask.com instead of Google and my Visa is burning from all the shopping I have done this week. But I digress...

Now the funny thing here is that (1) most of the time, the teams have no idea where they are going next and have to figure out some clue left for them to get this info and (2) they are constantly interrupted by their cell ringing with video messages from the host. Personally, I would lose my mind by episode 2 and stomp on the cell phone to make it stop ringing. But that's just me. Speaking of the host, it's some intense guy named Laird Macintosh. With a name like that, you would assume he was some dashing debonair guy from Ireland or Australia. Nope, he's from Evanston, Illinois. *laugh* He talks like William Shatner from Star Trek and he kind of stands sideways, I'm guessing, as a way of looking intense. Here, see for yourself - he seems to love his left side profile:

He's no Phil Keoghan but he gets brownie points for taking his job seriously.

The teams are a mess and the strong teams are so blatantly apparent, it's ridiculous. Team Ex-CIA and Team Air Force seem to be the ones to beat, thus far. I'm hoping that this show levels the playing field by taking them internationally and having them deal with plane delays, language barriers and etc. That way even the strong teams will be challenged.

I'm going to hang in there despite the fact that this is airing against Hell's Kitchen (damn you, NBC). My VCR is going to be smoking again this summer.

Speaking of Hell's Kitchen, it is AWESOME this season. Gordon Ramsey is out of control and I LOVE IT. Wow, I didn't think it could get any better and it has. Be still my reality TV loving heart. *sigh*

Well, I'm off to watch Syriana....my Blockbuster online DVDs arrived and I have been dying to see this movie. I also have 16 Blocks and The Family Stone. So reality TV will have to take a break while I catch up on some movies.

National Treasurers airs Mondays at 9pmEST/8c on NBC. Hell's Kitchen is on the same time and day but on FOX. Happy Watching!

Comments on my blog

I may not post on my blog as often as I should (I am busy watching TV and reading tabloids! *laugh*) but I do enjoy reading the comments people leave for me. Just no spam, people! I don't need to buy a house in PA or buy a knock-off Gucci bag. Now if you have a copy of the Project Runway-Season 2 DVD at a great price, then we can talk.

One nice guy named Hughe2030 who, by the way has a great blog about NYC here, left a comment asking me if I had seen Brokeback Mountain. This was in reference to my post on 12/31/05 regarding the movie's, um, blatant title. Well, Hughe2030 dahling, yes, I did see it when it was released on DVD a few months back. I have to say, it was one of the saddest movies I have ever seen - just as sad as Million Dollar Baby (long story which I will leave for another post). I cried like a baby so maybe it was good that I saw it at home and not in the theater. B looked at me as if I were insane (yes, I made him watch it with me and he was not happy...typical straight guy!).

But I loved the movie. I loved it because to me, it wasn't about a gay affair or gay sex. It was about two guys who were drawn to each other and fell in love but couldn't be together because of society. It's sad. And bothered the shit out of me. You can't help who you fall in love with, plain and simple. Heath Ledger impressed the hell out of me in this movie. The man earned props from me big time.

Who knows? Maybe I will bump into him in Brooklyn one day since he and wifey Michelle Williams have settled into domestic bliss there. If I do see him, I will probably babble on and on about how great he was in that movie. So Hughe2030, thanks for the comment/question and keep them coming!

It's almost over *sniff, sniff*

I hate this time of the year. :( First, my fave show Project Runway ends and won't be back until December. Then, other reality TV shows premiere and they are all airing AGAINST EACH OTHER. It drives me insane, especially since I don't have Tivo and only own 1 VCR. I was literally a mess this week...on Monday night, 24 and The Apprentice were on at the same time so I ended up taping 24 and watching The Apprentice on another TV in my house. Tuesday, American Idol ran an extra half hour from 8-9:30pm, which clashed with Amazing Race at 9pm. Then Wednesday, American Idol was on from 8-9:30pm (again!), Lost on at 9pm, and Project Runway at 10pm. Oh boy. I was all TV-ed out and Thursday had not even gotten here yet! Well, on Thursday, Survivor and American Idol were on at the same time. There was no thinking there - I was watching Survivor. To put it nicely, forget American Idol! I can read the message boards to find out who got cut.

So here is the weekend and I am exhausted...from work and TV! LOL! B and I have our weekly rentals from Blockbuster Online and we caught the re-airing of the Project Runway Reunion, which was great. Nick looked fabulous as usual and of course, Santino showed no guilt over the statements he made during the show about the other contestants. However, B and I really think he's going to win. We shall see this week when part 2 of the finale airs.

Flavor of Love is on tomorrow! Can't wait!

Anyway, that's it for now - hope everyone is having a great weekend!

This is a big week, Folks!

This week is going to be a busy one for me, folks. There are 2 shows returning this week, The Apprentice tonight and The Amazing Race tomorrow night. Then we have American Idol on for 3 nights plus the finale of Project Runway on Wednesday night, Survivor on Thursday night and I don't even want to go into what I watch that's non-reality. My VCR is going to be smoking this week! Makes me wish for Tivo but Direct TV refuses to give me a free Tivo box unless I sign a 2-year contract with them. Uh, uh - don't think so. I would think after being a customer of theirs for 2 years that they would be happy to give me a box without any catch. Oh well. But I digress...

Well, Survivor Exile Island has been on for a while...it's turned out to be the Survivor Boy's Club with 4 women consecutively voted out. There's 4 women left and only one of them seems to be playing smart. But I think the chances of a man winning this time around is high. Watch it turn out to be Bobby, the guy who sleeps all day, does no work at camp and announces when he has to take a dump. The guy gets no facetime but I bet he makes it to the end and Survivor fans will be in an uproar. LOL!

My favorite is Cirie...in the first episode, we learned she had leafophobia (fear of leaves) and was considered one of the "older" women despite being in her mid-30's (yes, I am still scratching my head over that one since I am 35 and don't feel old.). She was told in week 2 that she was second in line of being voted off since 4 people on her tribe already forged an alliance. Well, somehow, Cirie is still in it. She has managed to keep her mouth shut, participate well in challenges (despite being about 25 pounds overweight and having at least a DD bust), work hard at camp and she has bided her time well, watching while that alliance of 4 on her tribe slowly dissolves. Her sidebar moments with the camera are hysterical and I just love her attitude. I'm hoping she stays around for a while. She is truly a great player in the game of Survivor.

If you know me, you know I am a Project Runway geek. I love this show more than Survivor, to be honest and that's saying a lot! This season was so much better than last season. The talent was phenomenal, Heidi Klum looked extra cute with her protuding pregnant belly, and there were many designers to root for. I fell in love with Nick Verraros. That's my baby right there. Yes, he's gay but every gay man needs a fabulous straight girlfriend to shop with, have drinks with, chat it up with and just adore. Nick, I want you to be my GBF (gay boyfriend). I actually cried when he got eliminated because I felt he was robbed. But from I hear, he is not sweating it and is doing his thing. He actually went to the Olympics in Torino and was a fashion correspondent for a cable channel, designed a dress for one of the actresses from Desperate Housewives, and his Barbie doll from Project Runway has sold out. I never got one, which I am still bummed about. :(

So, who will win: Chloe, Daniel or Santino??? All I know is, if Santino wins, you will hear my screams all the way in Europe. I think Daniel should win. To sum it up, he is awesome. I guess we will find out when we tune in on Wed night (3/1) at 9pmEST on Bravo. The reunion show will air at 9pm and part 1 of the finale will air at 10pm. Part 2 of the finale will air on March 8.

Another guilty pleasure of mine has turned out to be the show Flavor of Love on VH1. It's like the ghetto version of The Bachelor with Flavor Flav from rap group Public Enemy (who also did Surreal Life and Strange Love on VH1 as well). Flav had 25 women vying for his attention and love. Instead of a rose, he gives them clocks (LOL!) and tells them "You know what time it is!". Oh damn, B and I crack up over this every week. Flav admitted in the beginning of the show that he had a terrible memory so he gave each of the ladies a nickname. When the girl is eliminated, her real name is revealed to the viewers.

He had some crazy girls on this show. One girl, whose nickname was Hottie, was just out there. Flav learned that she was on the show Blind Date and admitted on TV that she was after money so he eliminated her. Another chick that is out there is New York. She actually has made it to the final 2, much to B and I's disbelief. But I have to say, she is entertaining and keeps you watching. She goes on and on about how she loves Flav, how he's a beautiful man and how she is prettier than all the girls there. She flips out when he doesn't pay attention to her or goes with one of the other girls. She talks in a weird way with her eyes closed. The girl has issues. B and I almost want Flav to choose her to see if VH1 will do another show about them! LOL! There was one girl who we thought was perfect for Flav but he eliminated her last week. Her nickname was Goldie and she was so down to earth and had such a great personality. Oh well. Who knows what type of woman Flav is looking for?

Anyway, I have gabbed long enough about reality TV. I need to run and do my research...I am planning to switch cell phone providers and am thinking of switching to Sprint or Cingular. Haven't decided yet so I am going to see what I find online about both companies and their service.

Until next time with remote in hand,
Marcy :)
